A man has been charged with murder, in connection to a homicide that occurred at The Gateway Inn in Salt Lake City on Nov. 28. According to court documents filed Monday, Joshua Valasi Saunders was being charged with murder, obstructing justice, and purchase, transfer, possession or use of a firearm by restricted person.

Four men are in the Utah County jail on suspicion of carrying out a string of crimes. It started on Dec. 11 around midnight. Charging documents indicate an adult male had arranged to meet Alejandro Renteria in the Utah County town of Elberta. The meeting was to exchange drugs and to buy a firearm for protection.

A 75-year-old woman is dead after being hit by a car Friday evening. According to Sgt. Clint Bobrowski with the Layton Police Department, the incident occurred around 5:15 PM near 737 North Main St. in Layton.

Unified Fire Authority investigators are trying to determine the cause of a garage fire in Kearns late Wednesday night. Firefighters responded to the fire near 4100 west and 5500 south just after 10:30 p.m. The detached garage behind the home was fully engulfed in fire when crews arrived.

West Jordan: A man was stabbed by a hitchhiker he picked up Wednesday night, police say. The motorist told police he picked up the hitchhiker near 7000 South and Redwood Road around 10 p.m. They drove to 3800 West and Old Bingham Highway, where the hitchhiker punched the man then stabbed him in the lower torso, according to West Jordan police
Salt Lake City: Police are searching for a suspect accused of assaulting officer. The Salt Lake City Police Department is asking for the public’s help locating Jackie Sanchez. Officers said Sanchez has multiple warrants out for his arrest.
